C is for Chevron

Some people dream in color, I dream zig zags. I see them everywhere. I want to transform everything, including my couch cushions, into zig zag patterns! Clearly, I’m in love with the chevron design. I don’t know if I should blame Missoni for Target or my friend Allison O. Either way, I am determined that chevron is the new black!

It all started with the launch of the Missoni for Target line. I’ve always had a thing for fun patterns including zig zags. Everything Missoni put out, I was in love with. I’m still wishing I picked up the Missoni weekender bag. Hint, hint, if you have an extra laying around, I will gladly make a weekender trip to come and get it.

After debating and not picking up the Missoni items I really wanted, and then receiving adorable Missoni tumblers and Missoni makeup bags, (thanks Sollars!) I was hooked on the zig zag again. Then, I went to Allison O’s house, and there in the new nursery she was decorating was a real life monument to my love of zig zags: yellow and white chevron curtains that her mom made. They were the kind that you dream of having. Long, and elegant with the grommet hooks, the yellow bursting with color in the nursery. For a few seconds, I was considering if I could squeeze into the crib for the future baby Otte and make this room my own.  And, to top it all off,  once the new baby arrived, Allison made a cute design for her living room wall. It was all of the dates of her family members with...a chevron background! It's too cute.  Check it out on her blog at http://sincerelydesigns.wordpress.com/2012/01/02/sudoku-no/

After being immersed in all of Allison’s chevron glory, I immediately started thinking how I could incorporate the chevron look into my mostly striped furniture scheme. The search is on…if you know of any subtle ways to add chevron to my life, let me know! Until then, I dream of these:

Caution: Shameless Self Promotion

As someone who has always found herself writing, November was a big month for me professionally: my first article was published in a magazine!

I’ve always been a writer. I think my love of writing beyond homework assignments started when my dad got a laptop for work. It was our first computer. I was hooked, and keep in mind there was no Internet back then. Yes, I’m old! I still have the first story I wrote. It was a satire about my family that contained mostly true material, but with some embellishment. I’m pretty sure I was not their biggest fan during these times. Any conversation that I heard, I would incorporate into my story. It was a long, hard summer.

Here it was, a normal Wednesday afternoon in November. I was working from home and saw that the November issue of Her Kansas City was at newsstands. I had already mapped out the multiple locations listed on their website where you could pick up the new women’s magazine. I quickly made my way to World Market to pick up a copy….or 20.

As I walked in the front door of World Market, there they were, a beautiful stack of Her Kansas City magazines. I picked one up and then scanned the inside table of contents to see where my store was. I shrieked with excitement as I turned to my feature story on tailgating. I’m pretty sure the lady who was in the lobby with me thought I was absolutely crazy. After I stood there and read the article I had just written a few weeks ago, I flipped to another article that was written by a good friend of mine. This was unbelievable! Two girls who met while working in the trenches of a law firm marketing department had managed to get printed in a magazine…and not to mention, the same issue. This was so exciting as I looked at the Contributing Writer section. There they were, our names in the same column. Christy Moore and Wendy Drochelman never looked so good on that shiny paper in the beautiful sunlight coming in through the windows in the lobby of the Westport World Market.

After I read through the articles that Wendy and I both penned, I casually looked over my shoulder to see who was around and grabbed about 25 copies of the magazine. I didn’t know if I would get a chance to write another article, so I was going to make sure everyone I knew had a copy of this one. I mailed them to family members and friends. Every best friend got a copy. I gave them out to anyone who I thought would find them exciting or interesting. I was going to do whatever I could to spread the word about this new magazine. Not only was I writing for it, but I was a fan of the content and message. If you haven’t heard of this magazine check it out at http://herkansascity.com/.It’s a local (KC) magazine offering intelligent, inspirational editorial content. Check out the section “Find Her” to see where you can pick up a copy.Trust me, the Confessions is worth picking one up. They are hilarious….and so true.

On a side note, I still get this excited every month when I see my article in print and I still make the trek every month to World Market where I pick up a generous handful of magazines that I still mail to those who don’t live close and force on my friends. 5 years is a long time

If you know me, you knowthat I don’t stay put long. I haven’t lived in the same place for more thanfour years (childhood excluded) and I’m always looking for something fun to do,somewhere fun to live, etc. Much to the chagrin of my father, I can’t seem toplant roots. However, five years ago I decided I wanted a dog and that meant I would have to get serious about commitment. I figured lots ofpeople have dogs
and I am responsible and organized, so this would be a slamdunk for me, and in March of 2007, I entered
into the world of a pet owner, and I was worried how this would turn out.

I am happy to report that this past New Year’s Eve my little bag of wrinkles, Lulu, turned five. We made it. We’ve managed not to kill each other, although there were times when she was doing figure eights around my living room terrorizing me and my friends while we were held captive  on the couch that I wondered what I had gotten into, and if my friends would ever come back to my house.  All in all, I think Lulu and I make a good pair. She’s currently wrapping up an extended vacation at her country home in Tonganoxie. I am very much looking forward to having her back to hear her snores and grunts.

Lulu's first Big XII tournament.

The early days.

Life as we know it...now!

Better late than never

As someone who likes to be ahead of the curve on things, I may be late to the game when it comes to blogging, but I like to think of it as years of researching if this “blog” thing is a fad or not. Now that I believe it is here to stay, here goes!

I wanted to create this blog as a way to put my thoughts out there and talk about things I think are “Noteworthy.”  This could mean anything…food, beauty products, music, tv shows, gadgets, random thoughts – you name it. I’m not really worried if one person reads it, but it’s just a creative outlet for my thoughts and writing.

I encourage you to leave comments, ask questions, etc. I know everyone is busy these days and if you are taking the time to read, well, I appreciate that and want to know!  Happy reading and I hope something I think is Noteworthy to me, is to you as well.
